Embracing Our Past, Preparing For Our Future: AISM @ 10

December 12, 2017

AISM Parents, Students, Community Members and Friends,

On behalf of this year’s teaching team (our tenth), I just want to take a moment to thank you all for making our Tenth Anniversary Commemoration and the Student Performances so special, on Friday afternoon. As the Director of AISM since 2012, I am very fortunate to have the unwavering support of our entire stakeholder community. All of us, working as a community, have put our students first – and I am truly humbled by the progress that we have made on all fronts - during the many years that I have been fortunate to be part of the American International School of Monrovia.

I would also like to thank our distinguished guests, and two of the original 2007 members of the Board of Trustees, for being able to join us on Friday afternoon. As we heard during the commemoration part, the American International School of Monrovia is a unique community with a very unique history. The school remains a vital part of the country of Liberia’s reconstruction efforts, after a 17 -year period of civil unrest.

As we start our second decade, with U.S. Accreditation as a firm stability marker, the stage is now set for an even more successful decade of growth and progress for AISM. Over the course of our second decade, we will continue to strategically improve our students' educational experience here at the American International School of Monrovia.

Some additional programming notes as we conclude the final week of school before a well-deserved “winter holiday.”

The school will be on recess from December 16th – January 7th.

Scholastic Update:

New York’s first snowfall occurred this weekend, just in time for the holidays, while also limiting air cargo to “priority items” only. Unfortunately, our Scholastic Air Cargo Shipment was deemed a “non-priority” cargo item. The Scholastic books, which were to arrive on Wednesday, will now be leaving from New York on Wednesday, and arriving in Monrovia on Saturday. Please note that students transferring from AISM over the winter holidays will have a full refund, and the books ordered will be placed in the Library.

The books are expected to be at school early next week, and will be distributed on Monday, January 8th. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Melissia McGraw at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Student Council – Light Village Orphanage Home:

Tomorrow, members of the Student Council will join the Light Village Orphanage Home to spread joy outside of our community.

Over the last two weeks, fifty ornaments were placed on the Student Council bulletin board near the front office, with the names of the orphans, their ages and gender. Students were asked to select an ornament from the bulletin board and provide an age-appropriate gift to be given to the child. All fifty ornaments were chosen, and the Student Council will be able to support those children tomorrow.

PTA – Giants of Hope Orphanage.  Blessed Family Home Orphanage.

In addition, our PTA is also spreading the joy, in and outside of our school, as they visit two orphanages this afternoon.

As per the picture below, the PTA, once again, has gone above and beyond, in assisting children outside of AISM during this holiday season.

PTA Christmas, Friday, December 15th:  12:30 – 3:00

Please note that the PTA will be hosting our Christmas Celebration. Students who don’t celebrate Christmas will be dismissed at 12:30. All other students will get photos with Santa, a special lunch, and Christmas movies, all culminating in student performances before the 3:00p.m pick-up and dismissal.

Further details on Friday’s event will be communicated directly via the PTA!

It has been a busy, and productive, first term … and also first decade, here at AISM.

Best wishes for a relaxing – and well-deserved -- Winter Break.

Jeff
