AISM Celebrates Halloween/Fall Festival and Observes Liberian Thanksgiving

I would like to send out a “thank you” to the entire American International School of Monrovia community for a successful Halloween and Fall Festival celebration. The event was organized and supported by our recently reconstituted PTA.

As a past PTA Chair once wrote:

Dear AISM community,

I’m writing you today to express our thanks, on behalf of the previous PTA committee members and myself, for all the support and assistance you gave PTA in the last couple of years.

The PTA is the defining organization for parent involvement. Research shows that students do better when their families are involved at home and at school. The overall purpose of the PTA is to support the faculty, staff, parents, and most especially our students by enhancing their learning experience here at AISM.  Together we are a powerful voice for children.

Personally, I think that one of AISM’s strengths is its community, and I’m sure you will step up again and give this year's PTA committee the kind of help and support it has been accustomed to.

"Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success."

This year, the PTA worked hard to both reconstitute itself and organize its first, of what is likely to be many, successful events to enhance your students’ learning experience.

On that note, I would like to personally thank the parents who have volunteered their service to serve on the PTA Executive Committee:

  • Veronica Garley - Chair
  • Naz Dakroub - Co-Chair
  • Mabel Tolbert - Secretary
  • Caroline Razzouk - Treasurer
  • Jackie Crayton - Upper School Rep
  • Nesrine Eid - Lower School Rep
  • Rana Eid - Board Liaison

The PTA has also established a new email account and can be contacted directly at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
I am sure that, as the former PTA chair stated, as we have in the past, our community will once again “step up” to provide the PTA with the support it has had in the past, when they were able to support our student with donations of:

  • 300 books to the Library
  • $5,000 worth of science supplies for the inauguration of our Science Lab
  • 20 chromebook computers
  • The artificial turf that covers the lower school quad.

Please note that this list is not complete; as the former PTA chair stated, this organization has indeed been one of the strengths of our community over the years.

As a quick reminder, the school will be observing Liberian Thanksgiving tomorrow, and will be on recess. School will not be in session tomorrow, November 2nd, 2017

We remain aware that the information regarding the Liberia Election Cycle remains fluid.  School is scheduled to resume on Friday here at the American International School of Monrovia campus. We will use a "normal" school model on Friday, unless the Crisis Management Team and I determine that it is not safe and appropriate to do so.

If the school’s position on having classes on campus on Friday changes, we will notify you directly via dual text messages and email, and initiate our Jupiter online blended learning protocol.

Thank you once again for all your support during our PTA-supported Halloween/Fall Festival. Educating our children is a team effort, and yesterday, we were all able to see how strong our team for the Year of the Mountain Zebra is!   Please see some quick pictures below.

Best wishes for an enjoyable “first of two” Thanksgiving recess.
