This is … AISM!!

AISM Community,

This is the final week, and tomorrow, our final day, of what has been a very busy, productive, and successful 2016 – 2017 School Year.  AISM has much to celebrate, as the strength of the newly accredited U.S. Academic Program continues to grow.

This year, AISM reached academic levels above international and American national norms, as referenced by our school-wide MAP scores that our students achieved in a safe and positive learning environment.

This year, our PTA continued to play a pivotal role in enhancing our students’ education, with our new lower school and ECE playground turf, Halloween/Fall Festival, Movie and Family Fun Nights, SPRING CARNIVAL, and Teacher Appreciation Day. The PTA raised close to $10,000 to further our students’ learning. I would like to personally thank the PTA executive committee:

Caroline Razzouk Officer
Naz Dakroub Officer
Veronica Garley Secretary
Cheryl Flah-Kiahon Teacher Liaison
Nesrine Eid Officer
Rana Eid PTA Board Liaison
Chipo Nyambawaro Treasurer
Areej Razzouk  PTA Chair

I hope the two-month summer break, June 21 – August 21, provides our community with a well-deserved break and opportunity to recharge for another year of growth and learning in 2017 – 2018 … The Year of the ___________?  (Theme for the year to be identified on August 9th).

It is also, sadly, the time of year at which we say farewell to members of the AISM community who will be moving on to new beginnings. As mentioned prior, change and transition are two constants here at the American International School of Monrovia. This year, 22 (of our present 90) students will be leaving us. I have known many of our departing students since my arrival at AISM in 2012. Next year will indeed be a marked difference without their presence, and with the anticipated arrival of 36 “new” students who will be joining our community.

We also have a number of faculty members who will be leaving us to move on to new endeavors and adventures. We bid fond farewell and thank you to:

Sara Vander Velde ECE II/Art Integration
Elisha James Upper School English
Fiona Cunningham Grade 1 Homeroom
Gary Wittig Grade 4 Homeroom
Amanda Bolden  Teaching Intern
Lisa Blasé    Teaching Intern

Be it in the classroom as teachers, or by providing other essential elements to our students’ learning environment here at AISM, we know that our school has been made better and stronger with the contributions of our departing staff. On behalf of everybody here at AISM, we sincerely thank you for your service and wish you all the very best.

Final Notes:

I offer a special thank you to our entire community at large for all the work that we have done on behalf of our students. Thomas Edison once said … “it is not what you have, but what you do with what you have that makes all the difference.”  Well, here at the American International School of Monrovia, we have a great community, and indeed with the support of this community, we have had a very, very special year.

Don't forget we dismiss tomorrow at 12:35, and I wish you all a safe, happy and relaxing summer vacation.
