RE: October 18, 2018: “11 years and 10 days ago …. AISM Turned Eleven!”
It is hard to believe how quickly time flies, as last Monday, we quietly celebrated the 11th anniversary of the American International School of Monrovia.
Ms. Suba Srikumar
Original Staff Member of the first teacher cohort
of the American International School of Monrovia
AISM is a unique community, with a unique history, and I am very lucky to have been a part of it for over half of its present history. The school is a vital part of the country of Liberia’s reconstruction efforts, after an 18-year period of civil unrest.
As her Excellency, the President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, wrote in May of 2006, authorizing the reactivation of the school:
“As you know, the Government of Liberia considers the re-opening of the American International School of Monrovia an important demonstration of confidence in the future of our country.” She went on to write: “The resumption of school activities at AISM would also remedy a major constraint on the repatriation of Liberian Professionals who want to return home with their families and children.”
It is with great confidence, and with great purpose, that we now firmly enter our second decade of operation with the return of a quality, fully accredited, U.S. educational program.
As the Director of AISM since 2012, I am very fortunate to have the unwavering support of our entire stakeholder community. All of us, working as a community, have put our students first and have made tremendous progress on all fronts during the many years that I have been a part of the American International School of Monrovia.
Some of our continual school improvement can be seen in the unregistered/private YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5wmash1Ync&t=14s
The three-minute link (that marked our 10th anniversary last year) will be available to view for the next 48 hours.
Now, with U.S. Accreditation, as a firm stability marker, the stage is now set for an even more prosperous period of growth and progress for the American International School of Monrovia. Already, one year into our second decade, we have continued to strategically improve our students’ educational experience here at the American International School of Monrovia.
Happy Belated Birthday AISM!
Jeff Trudeau, on behalf of the teaching team of the American International School of Monrovia (which still includes Ms. Suba Srikumar)
