AISM Triple-Header this Friday!:
- Meet the AISM Board of Trustees
- PTA Presentation … Activities, Functions and Goals.
- Open House: Classroom Visits.
As a community, we all share a unique responsibility of building an even stronger American International School of Monrovia.
This school year, the “Year of the Wildebeest”, we will continue to seek quality communication alongside positive parent involvement. With these ingredients firmly in place, our students’ education will know no bounds!
To that end, this Friday, we will be holding a “Triple-Header” afternoon event to maximize your time, and to assist both new families and our returning families to the AISM community. You will get to know more about our school, programs, Board of Trustees and Parent-Teacher Association.
Please note that due to increased evening traffic, and based on our parents’ feedback showing that evening events are challenging to attend, most events at the American International School of Monrovia are held in the afternoons.
The Triple-Header will be at 3:00pm, with presentations from the American International School Board of Trustees and PTA. These sessions will be followed by a Teacher Open House, beginning at 3:30p.m.
During the Open House, your students will have a special “activity schedule” that will include Soccer (weather permitting), Basketball, Outdoor Play, or a G-Rated Movie.
Meet the AISM Board of Trustees:
Board Mission Statement:
Academic Excellence, Economic Security, and Long-Term School Viability.
Last night, the Board of Trustees held their first meeting to map out their work and goals for this school year. The core goal of the American International School of Monrovia Board of Trustees is not just to focus on the “here” and “now”, but also to have the unique responsibilities, as Trustees, of holding the school’s future viability “in trust.”
Last year’s Board of Trustees discovered that the challenges and demands of trusteeship are considerable, and so are the rewards: being part of an honorable enterprise, realizing the power of collaboration, and enjoying the satisfaction of service.
It gives me great pleasure to announce this year’s 9-member Board of Trustees. On behalf of our entire school community, I thank you for your service.
The members of the Board of Trustees will introduce themselves, and describe some of the goals that they will be working on this year to ensure that the American International School of Monrovia is able to deliver its core mission of Academic Excellence, Economic Security, and Long-Term School Viability.
AISM Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)
The objectives of the AISM PTA:
- Establish and maintain a working relationship among parents, school and community.
- Support school improvement teams and enhance the finest education environment possible for the students at AISM
- Expand our students’ equipment and supplies to strengthen the enjoyment of their time spent at AISM (i.e. the artificial turf)
- Develop programs (i.e. Halloween/Fall Festival) and projects that will enhance our students’ overall educational experience.
- Augment your students’ tenure at AISM by raising funds for school supplies or programs that fall outside the school budget. (In addition to the Artificial Turf, the PTA has also donated the Roving Computer Cart, EYP Playground Equipment, Books for the Library, Chromebooks for the multimedia lab … and countless other projects and support over the school’s young history).
The PTA will be presenting some of the events that will be held this year, announcing their Officers, and providing our community with information on how we can best work together to continue to improve our students’ overall experience here at AISM.
The afternoon’s main event will be our annual Open House. Open house is an afternoon for our parents to hear their students’ teachers, learn about “Essential Agreements” for each class, and what teachers will be covering during the first trimester. Parents will hopefully have some time to ask questions. We will begin in each student’s classroom at 3:30pm, and the teachers will host parents for three 15-minute sessions.
After visiting your student’s homeroom, you may choose which classroom/teacher to visit next, and during what session:
If you have more than three children at AISM, or if you want/need more time to speak to special teachers, parents may need to split up. Please remember that Open House is not the time to ask about an individual student’s performance, as we trust our team discussed these with you during our Student-Led Goal Setting meetings this week. However, anytime you have concerns, or wish to share information about your student’s performance, please know that our door is always open, and feel free to contact your teacher, or myself, through Jupiter, or call the office at 777 818 775 to arrange a conference.
See you on Friday… our afternoon will not be long … but we will be sure to go strong.
